Module 2
1. For each video and article list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Aesthetics - This was all new and different to me so everything seemed like a key concept. But the one things that stood out was when Georg William Hegel said "The work of art is a sensible object not only for the sensible intition but only for the spirit...The beautiful is defined as the appearence or the sensible reflection of the idea, of the Absolute."
Carta - This video as a whole had me a little confused because I can't connect the dots in where science and art combine.
CNN- What I found interesting in this article is that they explain how one sees a picture being three dimmensional; How the brain tricks one to think its three dimmensional.
2. Which philosopher's theory on aesthetics do you feel is most important? Be sure to mention the philosopher's name, era (time in history), and contribution to the aesthetic theory in your response.
I think Georg William Hegel of the late Enlightenment theories was more inportant because when he said this quote "The work of art is a sensible object not only for the sensible intition but only for the spirit...The beautiful is defined as the appearence or the sensible reflection of the idea, of the Absolute." to me he saying Art is a reflection of its artist and that is something I belive is 100% true.
3. What do you think about Changeux and Ramachandran scientific view of aesthetics and art? What was the most interesting fact you discovered from each speakers lecture?
Changeux and Ramachandran scientific views were both interesting to me and they both had something type of different theory and that made it more interesting. What I enjoyed from Changeux is the MRI pictures from the brain and the emotion. I found it very cool that you can see that all from a picture, in the brain. What I learned from Ramachandran was that art isn't to create a realistic picture but is used to rearange or alter something to cause an affect on the brain.
4. How do the videos and article relate to the readings in the text?
I alwasy find it helpful when there are videos to go with the text because then you don't just get a moving picture you get a better or different type of understanding to what the book has to offer.
5. What is your opinion of the films and article? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics in your reading in the text?
I enjoyed watching the aesthetics video because it was clean and understand and the video quality was great and I enjoyed Georg William Hegel's theory. The second video was interseting but the the speaker was hard to understand at times. These videos add depth because it gives you a visual and a clear understanding of whats being taught.
